If you're thinking about installing replacement windows at your home, it'll be useful to know how to accurately measure your existing windows. This is especially true if you plan on saving some money by installing the new windows yourself. Still, measuring windows accurately isn't as easy as you may think. There are some specific considerations you'll need to keep in mind when measuring for replacement windows in terms of height, width, and depth. After all, the last thing you want is to order your replacement windows and find that they don't fit properly.
Over time, your home's foundation tends to settle, which means the height of your home's window openings might not be consistent all the way across. As such, it's important to take several measurements of each window to ensure you order a replacement window that fits. Ideally, you should take a height measurement (from the top of your window sill to the top of the window's opening) on the left side of the window, in the middle, and on the right side. The smallest measurement is the one you'll want to go with, as it's easier to work with a window that's slightly small than one that's too large.
A similar process should be used when measuring the width of each window. Specifically, you should use a measuring tape to measure the width of the window opening from the inside of each jamb. Use this same method to measure across the top of the window, the middle, and the bottom. Again, use your smallest measurement when ordering a replacement window. And always measure each window individually, even if it appears to be the same size as the other ones. Better to be safe than sorry, as you may not be able to return a poorly fitting window for a refund (especially if it was a custom order).
Measuring the depth of your windows can be a little trickier, but is just as important as measuring the width and height. When measuring the depth, be careful to disregard all window accessories, including pulleys and weather stripping. Only measure the depth of the window opening, and be sure to do so in a few different points. Once you have all of your measurements for each window, submit them to a window company so the proper size windows can be crafted to fit your home perfectly.

Hi! I'm Adam Burkhard. As a young lad, I never paid much attention to the cleanliness of my environment. Once my first son was born, however, I started scouring the house top to bottom to create the cleanest environment possible. Unfortunately, during that time, I uncovered a serious mold problem in my home. The problem was so bad, it caused my newborn son to develop an allergic reaction. We instantly hired professionals to remove the mold and restore our home to new. Since I was interested in the process, I followed along with each step to learn more. I want to use this site to give people hope about the ability to remove mold without a trace. It's definitely possible to restore a home after mold takes hold behind the walls or under the flooring. I hope you learn lots about mold remediation services from my site.
